Perast

Situated like the eternal sentry, guarding the Bay of Boka Kotorska, Perast is full of Baroque architecture and many of the buildings within the town centre listed. The Bujovic museum reflects the maritime history of the town with its collection of costumes, weapons, and paintings.

In the bay are two small islands. The first holds the Benedictine Monastery of Sv Djordje (St. George) and the second the chapel of Gospa od Skrpjela (Our Lady of the Rocky Isle), with its distinctive octagonal dome, dedicated in 1630 and painted by Tripo Kokolja.

The annual festival of the ‘Scattering of Stones’, held on 22 June, is a festive procession of brightly coloured boats tied together and accompanied by music and folk songs.
